South of England, 1816.

The Earl of Steald, a decorated hero of the Napoleonic Wars, arrives at the estate of Niant for a gathering, invited by an old school friend. Amid the refined noble family's festivities, he encounters Miss Isabella Marton and soon finds himself captivated by her sharp wit and spirit.
